CERN just Opened all its Data

Be it for educational purposes or for research, you can now download all the data of all the experiments carried out on the LHC and much more.

The data, distributed under a CC0 (public domain) license, can be viewed and analysed using CERN’s own specialised tools, also freely distributed. These tools run atop Scientific Linux, the Red Hat-based GNU/Linux operating system that has also been freely available for some time, and includes all the software and libraries necessary for the programs to work.

The portal also includes online tools that allow you to view experiments directly in your browser. Check out, for example, the CMS event visualiser (shown above), which allows you to graphically see the results of smashing particles together within the collider.

Do you manage a portal that distributes data or resources under a free license? Let Pling help you fund your project and build your community, so you can reach the audience you want.
